He sought out the shadows, finding his way by the illumination of the moon's pale green light, careful not to expose himself to it. He knew very well that the light would sap his strength and he could feel his eyes sting as he even looked at its reflection in one of the many windows. He hesitated for a moment before he briefly looked up and faced the stinging of the moon's gaze. Quickly averting his eyes again, he shook his head and blinked rapidly before continuing his path. There were quite a few hours left tonight, enough for him to go through with his plan.
After another brief glance upwards, he edged towards the Mellis Estate, where he knew the arboretum would give him many places to hide in the darkness he craved. He quickly climbed over the high, cobblestone wall which surrounded the estate and dove into some shrubbery where he took a moment to rest from the mild exertion of scaling the wall. He had to get to the smaller of the two main buildings, he knew, so he chose a path through the fruit trees on the left side along the wall.
It proved to be quite difficult to avoid being seen, as apparently one of the residents had chosen this night to go for a stroll through the gardens. It was quite dark, but the deceptively soft moonlight allowed him to see it was an older woman, presumably one of the many servants. She certainly wasn't dressed in the ostentatious clothing the Mellis family tended to prefer. Of course, she could also be a guest, but given the fact the family was a rather eccentric one, this was less likely to be the case.
Slowing his pace, careful to be neither seen or heard, he snuck up closer to the woman, as he had become curious as to why she was outside so late at night. Well, early in the morning would be more accurate at this time. Carefully, he hid behind a large rosebush, glad of the fact the tree looming overhead provided cover and shade as he observed her from a short distance.
